Jin Han Lee
We are thrilled to announce that artist, Jin Han Lee will be resident in the BA Painting studios at Wimbledon College of Arts this spring. Jin is currently engaged in PhD research in Painting at the Slade. Her research explores metaphor and the symbolic nature of the particular having a universal significance. Her work raises possibilities about the sequential relationship to the passing of time proposed within a series of paintings and reflects on Korean descriptions of seasons and time through painting and writing.
Recent exhibitions include New Contemporaries 2015, ICA, London; Your Night My Day, Gallery EM, Seoul, 2015; Tradition, Pump House Gallery, London, 2013; Saatchi Gallery New Sensations 2012, B1 Space, London, 2012
Collage is a key methodology in Jin’s painting practice, which she describes as integral to shaping her identity and viewpoint as a painter, as well as to manifesting the passing of time and the shift from an original to the appropriated.
Jin’s plans for the residency include providing space for students to challenge emotionality in an intellectual context and revisiting spaces local to the collage with a view to negotiating the passing of time though drawing.
This residency in Painting forms part of our year long examination of Borderlands: Collage into Painting.
